Black History Month is a time to celebrate and honor the rich contributions of Black individuals to our society. Bein a reflection on the struggles they’ve faced and continue to face, while also acknowledging their achievements and the progress we’ve made in the fight against racism. However, there has been a growing concern about the hypocrisy of some public figures, including members of the royal family, when it comes to supporting this important cause. One such figure who has faced criticism is Kate Middleton, the Duchess of Cambridge who is not really fighting against racism but instead she is a racist herself. Kate Middleton is an active member of the British royal family as a wife to Prince William of Wales. Recently she made more public appearances and was spotted in some new fashion styles which she directly copied from Meghan Markle, the Duchess of Sussex. Her hair styling was a complete copy of Meghan’s hair and that has bee a topic of discussion during the past few days. Most people believe her actions during Black History Month reveal a certain level of hypocrisy as it’s publicly known that her together with other members of the royal family are part of those who mistreated Meghan Markle for being a black woman and that she was not supposed to be married to Prince Harry. The racism story has led Harry and Meghan to stepping back from the royal duties. The couple even relocated to California so that they have some private and peaceful environment to raise the two little ones, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet Diana. Kate tried talking of racial equality but Meghan Markle’s vocal experiences with the racism was taken note of by the public and that has clearly shown Kate’s hypocrisy on the same issue.
Critics argue that if Kate Middleton is truly committed to supporting diversity and inclusivity, she should use her platform and influence to address racial issues more directly because it’s not enough to simply attend events or pose for photos during Black History Month. Real advocacy requires active engagement and a willingness to confront the uncomfortable truths concerning racism and Kate Middleton have never been seen involving herself in this.
Another aspect of Kate Middleton’s perceived hypocrisy during Black History Month is her choice of fashion. While she is known for her impeccable style and fashion sense, some have criticized her for appropriating elements of Black culture in her clothing and accessories for instance Kate have won the traditional African attire without providing any context or acknowledging the significance unlike Meghan Markle who has been praised for her fashion choices, which often showcase her appreciation for different cultures while paying homage to her own mixed-race background. Her fashion statements are seen as a way to celebrate diversity rather than appropriate it. Kate Middleton have to take necessary steps by involving herself in discussions around racial equality and participating in public dialogues working towards racial justice. She also has to use her platform in creating awareness about the challenges that Black communities face in their day to day lives. Kate lacks engagement with racial equality issues and appreciation of different cultures and that reveals her racial hypocrisy. Kate Middleton is being hypocritical in the celebrations for the black history month. She once recoiled away from Jamaican’s minister of Culture and now she wants to celebrate black people.
